Have you ever come home to edit pictures and found out you have captured things you never saw when shooting? I call this PPS. I just made that up, but think this should have a name. Happened to me a few times. It is very funny and sometimes a little scary because some of the things I see later in the pictures is potentially dangerous. Under water it is sometimes Stonefish, or Textile Cone Shells hiding under kelp or just extremely well camouflaged. Bumping into these things can do a lot of harm.
Look at this sole i shot at Antigua. I was focusing on the sole and adjusting lights and camera. Shot quite a few exposures. Sometimes I hold on to rocks or to the bottom with my fingertips when there is too much movement in the water. I always do this very careful. This picture is simply the reason why. Even in this very confined area with my full attention to every detail, I really don’t see the second fish before after the dive. Can you see just to the left of the soles head a second pair of eyes? I have no idea what that is – happy I did not put my finger on it.
